What Should I Wear to My Maternity Shoot?

July 12th, 2017

As you come to the end of your pregnancy, you’re probably excited about your upcoming maternity shoot with Stacey Dennin Photography or your photographer of choice. And you should be! You’ll get to capture the magic and the love you have for your child for generations to come, so it’s the perfect time to invest in the right outfit and accessories for your shoot.

Totally lost on what to wear to your maternity shoot? Take our tips for choosing the right outfits, and you’ll have memories to cherish just like the love you cherish at this point in your life.

  • Choose a timeless look. When your son or daughter is older, they will want to look back on your maternity photos and see a timeless memory. Thus, it’s best to avoid fad clothing and stick with pieces that have remained in style for decades. You don’t want to feel the same way about your maternity photos as you do about your mom’s prom photos from the 80s!

  • Pick light, natural colors. At Stacey Dennin Photography, we emphasize the role of natural lighting to create a free and flowing image that captures your unique glow. By choosing a soft color palette (think soft neutral tones and fabrics), we can keep the focus on documenting your growing anticipation and the clothing choices will just enhance your portraits.

  • Consider a maxi dress. Maxi dresses and long-to-mid length flowy skirts are an excellent choice for your maternity session because they can be customized with any type of jewelry you like, they hug your beautiful baby belly, and they easily cover up areas that you might like to hide.

To make all of this as simple as possible we have curated a beautiful collection of dresses and wraps that you may borrow from for your session. The studio wardrobe is always growing and we add new pieces often. The best part is the use of the studio wardrobe is complimentary with every session!
